Best Seat In The Movies?
63Pick A Seat,Any Seat?
Where To Sit.
You ever go to the movies and wonder where the best seat is, or maybe you always sit in the same specific area. Or have you ever argued where to sit with a friend or even your better half?
Well at least today it's a little easier than it was a few years ago. With the improvement in the seating as far as more cushion making it much more comfortable then years ago. Also you have the full high backs, with center arm rests and cup holders. Not to mention some seats even rock to give you the freedom of more movement.
Stadium Seating
Probably the single most important improvement to movie theaters has been the introduction of stadium seating, by far the best thing they ever come up with.
With stadium seating the rows are arranged on steps or terraces, instead of a 15 degree floor slope. Doing so enables each row of seats to sit 12 to 15 inches higher than the row in front. This also means by doing this you virtually have an unobstructed view of the screen. Even with a full house.
Now Picking Where To Sit.
According to experts, preferences vary but in order to get the most out of the sound system in most theaters, you want to pick a row about two thirds of the distance between the screen and the back of the theater. And then you want to sit one or two seats from the exact center of the row.
Why is this? Because the sound technicians check the audio levels from the center seat about two-thirds back from the screen.
With the right and left speakers equalized for the center, you want to try and sit slightly off center to enhance the stereo effect.
Enjoy the show!

Hi Kerry, I like the stadium, cosy for dating too, hmmmmm nice hub, how are you? Have a good day! Maita
I never thought of that! Good tip my friend.
Hi K, how are you today, just came to drop by, Maita
Good Hub, I always sit at the back, but that is to avoid having people behind me talking. When people talk during movies it is bad enough, but when they are behind me I find it even more distracting. But I never thought about the best seat for audio. Thanks
This is something I can relate to. I haven't been to a movie in the theater in a while. But, I usually try to sit near the middle, as close to the center as possible, to get the best sound. But, sometimes I sit in the handicapped row, because nobody usually sits there, and you have plenty of leg room. (Not that I need it. I'm only 5'5")
My brother and I saw "Star Wars Phantom menace." in one of those big screen theaters. he wanted to sit as close to the front as possible. Sure was weird. I have never watched a movie without looking straight forward. In this theater, it seemed like stuff was moving at you in many directions.
Everywhere but from Behind.
Oh, and, in answer to your question at my hub. I live in the Grand Rapids area. Getting to be too big, but better here than Detroit!!
Ever been to a theater pub? I like to visit them because they take out every other row of seats and put tables there instead, and you can eat food and drink a beer. I'm a bit of a short stack so at the T.P. I never have to worry about someone tall sitting in front of me and obstructing my view. I miss the drive ins that we used to go to when I was a kid.
Thanks for the read, have fun!

I don't quite know how I ended up posting that twice...Oops!
Thank you for the warm welcome, and I will be back for sure. :-)
...and the next best invention after stadium seating were the cup holders! No longer do we have to juggle our cups. I do love the built in pub tables but to increase seating these are phasing out in my area - fortunately the cup holders seem to be staying around for now. Good hub, thanks for the great tip.
I think you're right. That's where I like to sit at the movies. Unfortunately, sometimes I go with a friend who likes to sit in the first row. Drives me crazy!!
I remember your hub when my friend and I watched the new movie yesterday about divorce etc, it is very nice one,
I came by to drop by once more to thnak you for all the kind words and comment in my New Years hub, and for being a good friend too, YEHEY, Maita
Interesting hub. I find the best seat to be centered to the screen. But, yes some people don't want to be too close and some don't want to be too far away. I agree arguments have happened, and I think it's quite funny. Because, regardless of where you sit inside, if you're paying attention then you are less likely to miss something. The sound system installed in most places, you cannot not hear it. So, sitting is really an individual preference, set for other reasons. Such as a person will want to sit at the end of aisle, because they don't want to walk through other people's legs to get out. There is an added bonus to sitting on th aisle seat and you can leave more quickly than many others. This results in getting out of the parking lot without too many other cars. So, in the end. I like your article. :)
Good advice! I love stadium seating especially! It's great for short people who usually can't see over the head in front of them in normal circumstances! :)
I so love the new cinemaplex in Foxboro. Beer and food to you rseat, priceless!
What an interesting topic K Partin, you know I never really thought about it before, but will in future! :)
This was a cool little hub, K Partin. I gave it a thumbs up!
It makes sense that there is an optimal seat in the movie theatre, but I never knew where it was located!

This is interesting and I tend to just naturally gravitate to those seats recommended. Such great movie instincts.
Stadium seating just makes common sense - how well I remember the days of going to the movies, getting the perfect seat - and then the 8'2" person sits right in front of me.
It's interesting how the movies are done is Seoul, S. Korea. All seats are reserved. So I can get there early, purchase my seat (near the center) then stroll around or have coffee. Then the seats, yes stadium but also once when I bought a ticket I was directed to - a loveseat! So I was able to stretch out. The movie theaters are often designed for those dating.
Fun hub - thanks!
